Heya gals!
kw & i went to watch the buskers perform yesternite. and we saw this group of Chinese Canadians doing martial arts/acrobats. they were really good. the MC guy--i thought he talked a little too much, but kw said he talked just the right amount. anycase, go check out their website:
http://www.teamryouko.com/
emerson wong http://emersonwong.com/ is one of the main guys in the group--he's also the webmaster of the site, and he came to halifax. the other people who came were allen keng and chris mark, and one more.
you should go check out emerson's website, and read his profile. main point: he watched tv all his childhood, until he got a computer when he was about 10 (then he only played with that). Finally, he started learning martial arts when he was 17!! so he calls himself a late starter and he's learned a lot since then! he's pretty encouraging, and positive too and he keeps his mind on his work. Like, he didn't start snowboarding until he was 23.... he also has a U degree in commerce and/or computer science....
Anyways my point is that we've had probably a better/more enriching childhood than his apparently deprived one... and we can keep on learning and picking up new skills and talents.... like, keep ourselves focussed on one or two things at a time.
The experience of learning as an adult is different from learning as a child, we are aware of so many more things--we are more conscious of ourselves, the teachers, and the learning process, so we pick up a lot more, a lot quicker, and very differently. most importantly, we learn about ourselves and those around us. So, it's important to keep learning new things!
luv,
yeeges
